Artist StatementFor my art show, I decided to create mugs and berry bowls. I was inspired to make mugs because I drink coffee practically daily and I love having new mugs to drink from. I was inspired to make berry bowls because fruit is one of my favorite things in the whole world, and I really wanted to create some bowls that I could both wash and eat the berries out of. In order to make my collection look coherent and unified, I kept the glaze combinations mainly blue. For my mugs, I used a blue-green glaze, and applied the glaze in such a way that some parts of were green and some were blue. For my bowls, I decided to switch it up a little bit and glaze them brown before I applied the blue. This created a worn effect that I really love. I hope you enjoy my art show, and thank you for reading!

Why do Ceramics?
I have always had a love for ceramics, but just recently have I found out how to actually make quality pieces. I used to do a one-week summer camp at the Visual Arts Center where I was taught how to wedge, throw, trim and glaze in one week. As you could probably guess, I was horrible! I never had any time to really perfect my craft and get really picky. So when I saw a semester-long class on the elective options, I couldn't not do it. A whole semester dedicated to throwing on the wheel?! There was no way I wasn't going to take that opportunity. This semester has been so much fun, and I have learned so much. Obviously I experienced trial and error; I'm a beginner. But as the weeks flew by I found myself creating pieces that last summer I couldn't have dreamed of making. If you ever have the chance to take a ceramics class, I highly recommend it. It is so rewarding and fulfilling that all of the effort you put into it is totally worth it.
Outside of the Perkinson Arts Center
Outside of school, I enjoy playing tennis, being with friends and family, baking/cooking and volunteering at the SPCA. Currently, I am a freshman at Trinity Episcopal School, and my previous school was Orchard House. I have enjoyed every minute at Trinity, especially making new friends, having new experiences and having many more choices of classes and electives. Sophomore year I plan on taking advanced ceramics and sculpture. I am particularly excited for advanced ceramics because I believe that it will give me more opportunities to expand my knowledge while fine-tuning what I already know.
